Front-end User Capabilities

Post by cra2 »

What's the easiest way to allow all Registered Users to edit anything in the Phoca Galleries?
I hope, hope, this is a stupid-easy question to answer.

On our site there are just 10 "staff" who will post, edit, and publish content via the front-end.
There will be no other front-end users.
I need these 10 users to be able to add/edit/delete image galleries.

I have, as admin, uploaded hundreds of photos in a dozen categories.
Now I'm trying to allow the Joomla front-end users to take over editing/moving them.

But when I create a User Control Panel on the menu (accessible to Registered only), it says that user has no Main Category and no Sub-Categories and thus has no images to edit.

a) What's the easiest way to allow all Registered Users to edit anything in the Phoca Galleries?

b) What's the easiest way for the Registered Users to edit those images? Going into the phocagallery, seeing a typo in a description, then having to go out to the menu to click on User Control Panel, then going into UCP and trying to find that image to edit it, is NOT easy, nor intuitive. So I must be missing something.
I would assume that, as they're browsing the galleries, they can (if logged in) click on any image and it will have an "edit" icon next to it just like any joomla article. They can click that and have a pop-up interface that lets them edit the image or description right there and click Save.

Any help appreciated!

Hi, pleas follow the Forum rules: forum-rules.php (1)

a) you can allow them to go to backend or they can do it in frontend in UCP - but they need to be owners of the category
They can delete, publish, upload images in category view too, if they have rights to do, see:
https://www.phoca.cz/documents/2-phoca-g ... ser-upload

b) users in frontend can edit description only in ucp

I probably made it a long and confusing question.

What I'm really asking is:

(assuming all front-end registered guests here)

Users can edit the galleries and images they create.
But I (admin) have created hundreds of images before there were any users.
Can I create a new registered user and instantly give them access to edit ALL images?

Hi, they are rights to categories, you can add rights for selected users (e.g. one or all) or groups (registered, specific) for the categories.

I go to Phocagallery Categories and set the following on a pre-existing category:
Access Right: All Registered
Upload and Add: All Registered
Delete and Publish: All Registered
Owner: Nobody

Then, I go to front-end, login as a registered user and go to UCP.
I click on Categories and the only category visible is the test category I uploaded as that user.
Not the one I just edited (above).

So which setting will let all registered users edit all categories (and subs) in their front-end UCP?

**edit** So looking around on the forums, I see that users can only "own" one category, right?
That's fine, I'll move all of my existing sub-categories into one main category called "photos" and that would allow the user to own all categories & sub-categories on the site, right?

But the question is... can I set ALL users to own that main category?
I need all registered users to be able to edit (front-end) all photos.

Hi, user can have only one main category (parent category) and a lot of categories. If the category is owned of one user, it cannot be owned by other user. But other user can upload, delete, public images in such category if he/she has rights to do (in category view, not in UCP)
