Hi, I got the same problem. I tried with different accounts and emails: does not send any email when a new message is added in the guestbook. A solution in this forum would be great! Thank you.
Guten Tag, Ich habe das gleiche Problem. Ich versuchte mit verschiedenen Konten und Emails: kein Email wird geschickt wenn eine neue Meldung hinzugefügt wird. Es wäre toll, eine Lösung hier zu finden. Danke.

Oder muss ich die Adresse manuell in irgendeiner Config-Datei hinterlegen?
Nur setze die Adresse resp. den Verwender (User) in Parameters Component (Menu Link Paramters)... Leider weiss ich nicht wo das Problem liegen kann. Ich teste es auf meinen Localhosts (XP,PHP5;Suse,PHP4,PHP5, auf meinere Seite: FreeBSD,PHP5) und alles laüft ...

Hi, the topic is marked as solved a long time ago so If someone will add some question into the solved topic, it is not changed to not solved (I think phpBB doesn't have such function)
I have tested the mail function on all my test servers and it work so I cannot say what is wrong on your server, only in case I will try to see it in action...

Hi Jan. Es geht bei mir mittlerweile.
Warum kann ich dir leider nicht sagen, da ich an den Settings nichts gravierendes geändert habe.
Ich habe nur heute die Email-Benachrichtigung testweise mal auf einen anderen User eingestellt, also nicht mehr auf meinen AdminAccount.
Dieser bekam dann sofort eine Emailbenachrichtigung, als ich dem Guestbook einen neuen Eintrag hinzugefügt habe.
Danach habe ich die Benachrichtigung wieder auf den AdminAccount umgestellt und siehe da, auch dort kamen nun Emails an.
Ich habe das Gefühl, dass er manchmal die Emailadresse nicht richtig setzt, wenn man die Settings von PhocaGuestbook ändert.

Hallo, das ist aber für mich unverstehbar. Wieso kann ein Skript, welcher ist fest geschriben, einmal was schlechtes setzten und manchmal richtig... ?

I realize this is an old topic, but apparently some users still have a problem with getting their e-mails sent. The solution is simple once you figured it out.
1. Go to the Phoca Guestbook control panel (Components -> Phoca Guestbook -> Control panel). Click "Parameters" and scroll down to "Send Email". Select the user and save your settings.
2. Go to the Menu Manager and edit the menu option you have attached your guestbook to (this is the menu option showing on your live website). On the right hand side you can change "Parameters (Component)". At the bottom you'll find "Send Email". This field must also be set to the correct value (i.e. the user you want to receive the e-mail messages). Save the menu option and you're ready to receive e-mails.
It took me some time to figure this out, but now it works fine. For the "Send Email" option in the menu parameters (component) there simply is no "Use Global" value available, that's why the value is not passed. It's probably enough to execute option 2 alone, but I was so glad that it finally worked that I never bothered testing it.

I have to use my commercial smtp provider to send emails from my Joomla site. However, the "send" option when activated, appears to override my "send from" email address to be the users email they entered in the guestbook.
I confirmed this by entered my "smtp provider" email account I use on the site to successfully send out emails, as the email on the guestbook, and I get the email, and no error is displayed on the page.
I am wondering if this is something I can fix. I did not see any other configuration parameters other than those that are mentioned here.
