Sorting of categories for Phoca Gallery Menu Module

Post by lee_haire »

Hello,

My understanding of the Phoca Gallery Menu Module is that it uses the sorting order you've maintained in the Categories maintenance.

I'm using the little arrow to the left of the Title column to sort all my categories in Ascending order (I assume it is supposed to do this alphabetically):

I'm getting some weird sorting at Level 3 though. For example, under the colour Grey (2nd level), the category "Tinybot" should definitely come after "3M" and "Avery Dennison". For some reason though it is always placing it before 3M. I know it I can manually move it, but then when I want to resort my categories, it will get moved again. I've looked and there are no additional spaces or characters in the category Tinybot. Any idea what could be causing this?

Cheers,
Lee

Hi, testing now, I can reorder items in all levels of Phoca Gallery categories. So when you order the items on the same level in category view in administration and reaload the page, the items are not ordered the same way?

It's weird - the issue happens only with one particular subcategory in particular: Colours-Grey-Tinybot. I manually move it to the correct order when the 3 dots are enabled:

However, moving it doesn't seem to have any effect because when I leave the category maintenance page and come back it's always automatically repositioned back as the 1st subcategory under Grey (and it also appears that way in the menu). It seems to be ignoring where I move it and it's locked into the 1st position under Grey no matter what I do. Any idea what could be causing this? Is there some setting that can lock a category into position like that?

Thanks
Lee

Hi, ufnortunately, the ordering is a Joomla core feature, so there are no specific options. I use this plugin: https://www.phoca.cz/phoca-collapse-system-plugin when I get problems with ordering because it is limited due many items on site. But I don't think, this plugin can somehow help in this case

I created test items with 3 levels, testing now and still everything is OK for me. Even if I will reload or leave can come again to the page, all is OK there

Hi Jan,

Ok, thanks so much for looking into this. I think I will recreate the category and see what happens. I will also take a look at that plugin that you suggested.

Best regards,

After some further research, I believe that the particular category that was giving me issues likely got corrupted in the Assets table. I'm not sure how to check this directly, but what I did to get around this issue was:
- create a temporary new category
- reassign the subcategories to the temp one
- delete the old category that was giving me issues
- rename the temp category to have the same name as the original real one

Now everything seems fine - the "problem" category is now sorted correctly according to how I manually arranged it.
