copy from one gallery to another

I have a number of photos which I want to appear in multiple galleries.

ie;photo in gallery A needs to be copied to gallery b, c, and d. It has to be a copy, not a move. I want to do this without having to upload the same photo three times.

Hi,
no problem. You can assign the same image(s) to multiple categories. And of course you have to create the thumbnails only once.

OK, I see I can select an image and assign it to a category and then select again and assign again. That's a great improvement over what I've been doing. No, this leads to two questions.

First, can it be done on the front end. Can users with sufficient security copy/assign to another category?

Second. Is there a way to select the image then designate 2 or more galleries and do the whole job in one step?

1) users in frontend can load the images to more categories, e.g. the same image, but they cannot copy or assign it somehow.
2) there is no such option in frontend.

I think I tried this last week and it worked, but I tried again today and it didn't. It moved the image from one gallery to another.

Any idea what I missed today?
