Search Plugin

I am using the search plugin in my album. But I want to customize it by adding a drop down box instead of text box so that user can select text from the drop down box instead of writing a text or phrase in the text box. I am not able to get how to do it I need to customize it as its the requirement of the project. Can anyone help me in this regard?
I need help atleast an idea how to do it .

Hi, the phocagallery search plugin extends standard search in Joomla! so maybe there should be done modifications ???
