New Picture Uploads but Does Not Display in Cooliris

Sirs:

I have put Phoca Gallery on the website of a customer and when I first installed it I uploaded the pictures with no issues and also they are displaying on four different slideshows with Cooliris. They have meetings and when the meeting is over they show pictures to their group, candid pictures, and I upload them to the site. For some reason, these new pictures uploaded just fine but they do not display. I have checked everything, category, folder, menu item, and much more. I don't know if this is related to updating Joomla or not. I have version (Joomla! 2.5.24) and everything is up to date, plugins and site. This has been a real puzzle to me. I noticed that when I look at the images there is one thing different from before. Now, my pictures show my admin user name in a column entitled "Uploaded by" but it is not showing in all previous images. I thought it was strange that those images do now show in the slide show but they do show when I show the images in a folder format on the site. My conclusion is that they are uploading, showing on folders that are viewable to the public but not showing on the Cooliris slide show. Then I took a look at users since my new uploads show my user in Joomla but the older ones do not show my user in that column. I find that the only user showing in the Phoca "Users" tab is the website owner who does not work on this site. The other thing I see is that there is no button or link to add a new user, namely myself as webmaster. Could this be that since Joomla has updated that something from the previous version has changed so that when I uploaded pictures last year or the year before everything worked fine but now I am allowed to upload within the Joomla framework but since I am not a user in Phoca? they don't display on the slide show. I looked diligently but could find no place to add users in either Phoca Gallery or Cooliris Slide Show. I would deeply appreciate anyone that could help me solve this issue which is only now apparent after we have used this for two years. I have made no changes other than update Joomla.

Hi, Phoca Gallery does not have any own user management system - Joomla! ACL is used - in Phoca administration, only users who have uploaded images in frontend are displayed.

If the image does not display in Cooliris, check:

- if it is in right category which is set for Cooliris
- if the images is authorized and published - the same for category

The first picture I loaded was in a folder with the category that had worked for all others. I also checked to see if it was authorized and published which it was. Then I created a new folder, a new Cooliris, and loaded three pictures in that one but none are showing. I can see them in public folders which I have listed on the site as Slide Show>categories>

However, all new photos do not appear in the Cooliris. I see them in the "Images" and also checked the categories to see if they matched other images in the same folders and slide show. Everything is exactly the same except that the earlier photos do not show who uploaded them and the new ones do. It is a real puzzle because we have had this around 2 years and never had a problem before. All pictures loaded and are displaying. This whole thing started when I loaded a new picture through the front end where it showed as in place with all the others but then when I viewed the slide show by Cooliris it was missing. I tried matching the date of the others, making sure the category matched. I can see no reason why the new pictures do not show but all the old ones do show. It is a real puzzle to me.

Hi Jan,

I have developed the same problem as the original poster. My initial points below are a summarization of what he said.

I have read your responses and searched but find no solution.

1. Cooliris works on my website.
2. New uploaded images (to the correct category) upload fine, but now they show my name under "Uploaded By."
3. None of the previous images have a name in the "Uploaded By" column.
4. No users (not even me) are listed in the Users in Phoca Gallery (even though I have uploaded multiple files in Phoca Download and in Phoca Gallery).
5. The original files display in Cooliris, no newly uploaded files show.
6. Under Category, General Options - the Category Folder is blank.
---- I get a new error when I try to upload a file. It states: "User Folder (Category Folder) Not Defined"
---- I never received this error before.
---- This error goes away if I place a value (any value) in the Category Folder field
7. I do not have unique folders for each of my categories
8. I tried to troubleshoot by these steps, but the new Cooliris display was blank (no images)
---- creating an unique new category
---- Creating the Cooliris rss
---- uploading an image to that category
---- Opening a Cooliris gallery display
9. I even tried moving all my images into two new folders that matched the category names, and I recreated the rss files. The new uploaded images to those folders did not show in Cooliris. The previous images still showed, as if I had made no changes.

Any ideas?

I have found the issue and solution, but it is not good.

1. I deleted my browser history (IE 11)
2. I uploaded an image to a category using Phoca Gallery
3. I was now listed in the Phoca Gallery Users
4. I created a new rss file (Phoca Gallery, Categories, Cooliris)
5. The photo showed in Cooliris

However
6. I uploaded another photo via Phoca Gallery
7. It did not show in Cooliris
8. I created a new rss file
9. It still did not show
10. I deleted my browsing history
11. Finally it showed

This falls in the too hard to do category. I shouldn't have to delete browsing history and create a new rss file each time I upload a photo.

How it should work:

1. I upload a photo in Phoca Gallery
2. It shows automatically in Cooliris (selected by a menu item of a Cooliris 3D Wall)

see similar posts in this forum regarding this. The RSS is a file for whole category and editing it always when new image is uploaded can be a problem for server (memory issues, etc.) - this is why the RSS should be created manually for the whole category
