I am using Phocagallery and have been very pleased with it. My phocagallery has grown to over 1,000 photos.
I've found that this has greatly slowed down performance with other parts of Joomla.
1) Banners
When I go to upload new banners the folder tree with all of the site images (including phoca images) has to load. This results in a 2+ minute wait to be able to upload a new image.
2) Some slow page loads with articles containing a larger amount of images or thumbnails.
Any recommendations? Has anyone:
1) Used something like Amazon S3 to cloud host phoca images?
2) Change the root folder where phoca images are hosted? If I could move the images outside of images/phocagallery there would not be an impact with the upload of non-phoca images.
3) Any other tips or ideas to increase speed and performance?

Re: Images in Phocagallery Slow Down Site Performance
Hi, see similar posts in this forum: In Phoca Gallery administration, see last tab to get recommended settings.
If you have images stored on external server, then this is an issue of the external server - the page loaded the images from external server and if this takes some time, this has nothing to do with your server or Phoca Gallery on your server.
Images are displayed in pagination, so only e.g. 20 images per page are loaded, so this does not influence the loading time.
