Data lost from DB when upgrading Phoca Gallery

I'm using Phoca Gallery for long. Today I've noticed there was an error when entering Phoca Gallery. I didn't note it down and it's not happening anymore, but if my memory doesn't fail, it was something about a "protected" member in ca class, and JLoader. It's probably because of my upgrade from J1.5 to J2.5. What I did to quickly fix this error was download the last Phoca Gallery package and install it over the old one. I think I did this previously, when I was using Joomla 1.5 with Phoca Gallery for 1.5, and it was all ok.

However, after installing Phoca Gallery this time, everything I had previously recorded (categories, pictures) is lost from the database. The pictures are still there physically, but I will have to restore the table records from backup.

I'm telling this because it would be good if a Phoca Gallery reinstall over an old installation respected the old content, or it at least raised a warning saying that the old data is about to be deleted before proceeding.
