Transferring / copying menu items to another menu?

I'm about half way through a menu and I can see it will be too long to include in single menu. Is there quick way to copy some of the items to new menus? Or perhaps a mysql process?

Looks like I might need to bite the bullet and upgrade my Joomla Installation to 2.5x. Any way to mysql dump my old menu items from menu an gallery?
