Making a back up of a joomla / phocagallery site

Post by lonetour »

I am interested how other PhocaGallery lovers are making a back up of your site. I tried to use JoomlaPack, but it creates a huge ZIP file, which I can't unzip on my server, or download because of its size. I have hundreds of photos in my galleries, but can't think of a sensible way to back them up.

Should I...
1. Use JoomlaPack, but not include the Phoca Gallery images, making sure i have a copy of everything on my Hard drive?

2. Use a different method for making a Backup?

3. Something else?

Of course this is all after the event, as my site has already been hacked, and although nothing much was damaged, I have to set up a new site, but wanted to keep the PhocaGallery images, code and database if at all possible..... so......

4. Is there a way of making a new installation of joomla, using the exisitng MYSQL database and then importing the PhocaGallery images from the old site??

All your thoughts welcome.

Hi Jonathan, I do it this way:

with help of phpMyAdmin I export whole database into some .sql file and then I copy all the files from the server to my pc via ftp...

If I want to recreate the site, I copy all these files back to the server and import the .sql file into database via phpMyAdmin...

Hi Jonathan,

I use Joomla!pack to backup. The first time I took a backup including the originals of phocagallery. (I reasoned that the thumbs will be recreated when Phoca doesn't find a 'thumbs' folder).

Since I don't change my pictures that much, the next back ups I excluded the PhocaGallery folder - which decreases the amount enormous. When I would change my pics, I'd include the PhocaGallery folder again (but not the thumbs of course)

And I don't have a large server, so I download my Backups (Created by JoomlaPack) to my pc - and to another ones pc.

So generally I take your 1st option.
