Blank white page

I have installed Phoca gallery on a new Joomla 1.7.3 site. I have only one category with about 60 images. The thumbnails were created successfully. I created a menu item pointing to the category list option.

When I tried to access the gallery via a menu item I received a message "You do not have permission to take this action". However, having read this forum I discovered that the access rights to the category were incorrectly set in the SQL database. Having reset the "1" to a "0", the error message disappears and I am left with a blank white screen.
Note: When I change the menu item to point at the Cooliris option, the gallery is correctly displayed.

I cannot currently solve this problem so comments would be welcomed. Why does the category list option produce a white screen?


More information - When I call the gallery using the Phoca plugin, the matrix of thumbnails is correctly displayed, but when I click one of the images to open the larger version I get a message "Error 404 - category in unpublished". However, the category is published and the "published" value in the SQL database is set to "1".
