Hi, this is a feature, you need to delete images before deleting the category, it is protection against unwanted removing of images.

You should be informed by system message:
Category(ies): 'xxx' cannot be removed as it contains (they contain) Items. There may currently be Image(s) within the Category which you must delete first.
