I would like to extend my Joomla's native search (currently using RokAjaxSearch, but happy to use the basic one) to seek out keywords associated to Phoca Downloads? I found one plugin, but it only lets me search titles or filenames

Has anyone managed to do this?

Hi, there is no specific code for this, In Joomla! search plugins are used for the searching the component e.g. so you need to find some Phoca Download search plugin and customize it (if it exists)

I was thinking about this a little more. What is the purpose then of having META Description and META Keywords if these can't be searched?

Meta Description and Meta Keywords are important for search robots. This is the primary task of both parameters, the second task can be using them for e.g. tagging system (but this needs to be customized )
