Hello Jan,

First of all, congratulations for this superb application. I have a problem with the CAPTCHA image view. The image doesn't appear, only the blank space were the image is supposed to be placed.
I'm using your guestbook since begining versions and I remember that first time CAPTCHA was available it works on my website correctly. I don't sure but I remember that I performed a general file and directories permissions change in my web and since this change, the guestbook CAPTCHA doesn't work.

I tryed to change the files and directories of this component to 755 that is its current chmod setup with no results. I've follow all the instructions given in diferents posts with also no result.

My server GD library is OK and up to date (I have several CAPTCHAs runnig in my website including your free script "Phoca CAPTCHA" and all works OK)
SEF enable/disable with no results, as well as the two displaying methods...

So Jan, could you please give the correct file and/or directories permissions for phoca guestbook component?
There is any way to uninstall the guestbook completely and reinstall it without lose the database of the users comments? Maybe restoring the database backup after re-installation??

Thaks in advance

Hi,

I don't know it, I think this is different on different servers, I didn't solve such problem on my test and demo sites :( you should have such permissions that allows you to display the image and write the image into your folder by GD library...

New version:
Just try to install new version, you should not uninstall the previous version, just install new and click on upgrade (all your old data will be kept)

Hi Jan,

I'm sorry I didn't explain myself correctly (english is not my mother tongue... :x ), I was speaking about the files and directories involve in the CAPTCHA process i.e. "...com_phocaguestbook\assets\captcha\" or "...phocaguestbookcaptcha.php" etc. I'm not sure which files and directories are, and I wonder if could be possible to you to list it in a post reply and then I could "play" with its permissions to see what is the correct combination.
Just try to install new version, you should not uninstall the previous version, just install new and click on upgrade (all your old data will be kept)
I know your wonderful option button "Update". I was speaking about perform my last attempt...
It consist in trying to uninstall the whole component and install it again... but with no database lost. For this reason I ask you about the posibility of restore a database backup of the componet once the new installation is finished.
Why all this? because first time I installed your componet with CAPTCHA it works fine!!! but since I modified permissions CAPTCHA is K.O.
and I wonder if made the same as first time: a new instalation!! could be helpful and solve the problem...

Thanks again!! :D
and good job!!

I was speaking about the files and directories involve in the CAPTCHA process
Captcha images are created by GD library and GD saves them into:
components\com_phocaguestbook\assets\captcha\ ... GD add the permissions and these permissions are important for displaying CAPTCHA image...

Installation... If you will not uninstall the previous version, all data will be kept...

If you install some version (older or newer) and you have some previous version on your joomla site, AND YOU CLICK "UPGRADE" AFTER INSTALLATION, no data will be lost, because upgrade method only overwrites the files, it doesn't work with database, so old data will be NOT lost (NOT UNINSTALL + INSTALL other version + UPGRAD Button)

Saved data in the database doesn't influence the function of Phoca Guestbook, so you can upgrade to get newer or older files but the data will be kept
