detailed view not showing template

Hi
I am using category galleries and when a user clicks on a thumbnail, the detailed view pops up in a modal box, allowing for a slideshow and next/prev navigation. This is great!
However I recently implemented the search plugin. From the search results page the user arrives at the detailed view page within the template, but as soon as the navigation is used the next 'slide' shows in a page without template. ie There is no modal box.

Any suggestions how I can keep the search results from escaping the template?
