PhocaGallery 2.0.0 Logo/Credits

Post by moriwenne »

I was making some new joomla installs to test stuff and updated the phoca component. I immediately saw the new logo at the bottom of my images that in the case since I was just testing and had just 1 image almost looked like it belonged to the gallery.

I also saw that the option to take it off was disabled and all I could find on the forum about it was one post with this quote:

"This is not a bug, this option is missed in Phoca Gallery 2.0.0. There are reasons for it, but I don't want to speak about it. ... :(

Jan"

Now, I'm all for giving credit and you deserve all the best for your hard work, but these 'free' stuff needs to work both ways. I mean if it you had a small mention somewhere, hard to notice that people can click to go to your page, a small customizable icon, something that can be blended with the webpage, that would work. But such a big logo with words on it's size that are a link no less, it just steals attention from the page and makes it look cheeky. No client will want that thing there.
If you're making your component a paid one, it's fine, come up with features that only your paid one will have etc, but this just blatantly forces people away from phoca, it's very hard to use with any webpage.
Well these are my thoughts, again it's your component and your hard work and we can't demand anything of you. We can only show our appreciation and share our thoughts.

... Hi, you can still change it to version only... there is no big logo more... If you want to hide the logo, just e-mail me... there are no restriction which you can find by other extesions (like GPL3 where you cannot remove the logo)

I think it is still better than stopping this project (which can be possible because of threats, spams and site attacks ... it is not pleasant to get threats because some extensions does't know some feature ... :( )

Hi

I really love this component and it meets all my needs for the websites I build using Phoca Gallery, however, I also have the latest Phoca installed on one of my sites and works perfectly. I however have a question, am I allowed to change the logo/credit to show only the version number and then in the core code change the color of the link to the same color as the background of the site, so that it does not show and isn't visible, and thus the link still stays active and the people visiting the site won't see it?

Am I allowed to do this or is it prohibited?

Thanx again for this great free component!!!

Hi, there are no restrictions in this way ...

No rescrictions, no fees ( so users will decide what will Phoca Gallery be... if users will decide that they want to hide footer credits, if they decide that they want not to support Phoca Gallery some way - translations, answer topics in the forum, themes, donations... so some day Jan will say: I cannot donate Phoca Gallery with all my time and cover all the Phoca Gallery costs, so I must stop this project ... ) :D As I said everything depends on users ... :D

BTW: if the links stays on your site, it is OK ( I don't want that people hate Phoca Gallery because they must display a link in the footer which is unfit to their site, so no rescrictions there )

Hi Jan

The link will definitely stay on the site, it will only blend in with the background :D . Its a great component so in my opinion the link definitely needs to be there, only needs to blend in.
