show not the complete category path

there might be a structure like this:
parent_category - sub_category_1 - sub_category_2 [with pictures]

in the category view it's shown like this:
parent_category >> sub_category_1 >> sub_category_2 (8)

how is it possible to show only the lowest level of the category structure?
Here:
sub_category_2 (8)
