massive spam

I have installed the latest version for Joomla 2.5 and I experience massive spam almost every day. I block IP addresses but the same IP addresses can send spam again. I tried to do it with recaptcha and entered the codes. When I try to activate ReCaptcha the following message appears on the front end "Input error: Invalid referer "

How can I avoid the massive Spam?

But why is reCaptcha not working on my site?

Hi, really no idea, try to see the html code and javascript code, try to check your javascript console (e.g. in firefox, firebug, etc.) to see if e.g. some javascript error does not prevent from displaying it on the site, etc.

Okay will do this.

But there is really massive spam coming in every day. I find this not normal when I have a captcha there.

On my site I have build over 60 spam and ddos protection methods (mostly in this forum) and by external services over 1/3 IP addresses are blocked for my site and still my server goes down regurarly becasue of spam or ddos attacks ... in forum I get a lot of spam messages a day (through the 60 different protection methods!!!!) ... so yes, it is normal

I had the same problem with phoca guestbook, even though I thought to be save due to the recaptcha. But that turned out to be cracked by robots nowadays. I already considered to take the guestbooks away from my site. Since this afternoon, however, I applied Akismet and the spam suddenly stopped. Hope it remains that way and maybe it could also be a solution in your situation.
