General Settings random image ordering?

Can you provide instructions to add random ordering to Image Ordering options in General Settings?

In General Settings there is no option to order images randomly when viewing a gallery, only by order, title, date, etc.

I found a post from December 2009 where someone is asking about the same thing viewtopic.php?f=1&t=6703&p=36186 but I don't find a solution.

Random is commented out in ordering.php but uncommenting it doesn't make it available in the Image Ordering dropdown

To clarify, I'm referring to General Settings in the component, for a menu item linking to gallery for one category - not the module or plugin settings.

Hi, it is commented, becasue then you get some conflicts e.g. with pagination, etc.
