Hi guys, I am still working through the various Phoca Gallery settings and the documentation trying to get it to work as I need, however I thought it might be better to simply ask the right way to set this up.
Is it possible to have a 'user' folder created at registration or first use of the gallery? I want to enable a user photo gallery for every user, in which they can upload photos to it and create up to 12 sub-categories.
We also have our main photo gallery with quite a few categories within it, I do not want to allow members to make subcategories in these categories/folders, they can upload photos but not create sub categories.
So in summary
1. Create User Gallery (Folder) and enable user subcategory creation and photo uploads
2. Normal Site Photo Gallery, not allow subcategory creation for Members, enable photo uploads.
Or alternatively
How would I accomplish the above manually?
What I mean here is when a user registers I will create their User/Member folder under a top level category called Member Photos.
I tried this where the top level Member Photos is not assigned to any single owner and has the same access rights as the other categories in the gallery, this ensuring they have acces to it and can upload photos into their subcategory. However when I created a user category under that category, i.e. Member Photos - UserName and assign the owner to be UserName I get the error of
Save failed with the following error:
Parent Category is not asigned to current user
So I am stuck how to do this, please help.
I want it to work where the UserName folder is accessible to everyone but ONLY the UserName can add photos and new categories under that users folder.
Thanks for your help

Re: User Gallery Folder creation?
Hi,

So I think the best and quickest way is to somehow customize the registration script:
a) to create folder on server
b) to add information about this folder to phoca gallery category table
and then to not allow creating of subcategories for the users.
Jan
This needs to be customized in Joomla! core, as the registration is a part of Joomla! core there is no option to make it in Phoca GalleryIs it possible to have a 'user' folder created at registration or first use of the gallery?

Re: User Gallery Folder creation?
Thanks Jan for the reply, however I have no idea as to how or what to edit and change in the Joomla system, so that is not an option for me.
If I could redirect you back to my original post, in particular
Thanks

Re: User Gallery Folder creation?
This means, you want to assign a subcategory to someone but the parent category is owned by other users. The subcategory cannot by owned by someone other which owns the parent category.

Re: User Gallery Folder creation?
Bugger... maybe this is something you might want to consider for a future edition. Reasons why is that I'd like to have a member gallery for every member and have the member galleries under the main 'Members' gallery; so it would be
Photos > Members > MemberName.
The MemberName is accessible to everyone but uploading is ONLY for the member with that ID/MemberName. The Members however cannot add photos to the Photos or Members directories/galleries. I hope that makes some sense

Hi,
I've a similar problem. I have no member galleries but thematical galleries, the pictures uploaded by members should be saved in the member directory and shown in the thematical gallery.

Re: User Gallery Folder creation?
I have been trying to understand the documentation to allow me to create user Galleries under the main parent Art Gallery folder.
What I want is to be able to create a user gallery and for them to be able to manage the photos within them.
So how do I do this, or is this something that Phoca gallery cannot do?
So what I have is a parent gallery called Art Gallery
Under that gallery I want to create a gallery for specific users (i.e not all users) so they can manage it. However when I create the gallery and assign them as upload, delete and owner rights, I am getting the parent category error, as in they do not own or have access rights to the parent gallery. So I tried going to the parent gallery and specifically assigning each user in the top category as being able to upload and access, however I cannot have multiple owners, which I think is the main issue here, or what am I doing wrong?
In the end I want a gallery set-up like the following where User1, User2 and User3 are web site Registered members
Art Gallery (top level gallery, no uploads or changes allowed as this is the top level category
-> User1 Gallery (All can view, but only site admin and gallery user1 can upload and delete photos)
-> User3 Gallery (All can view, but only site admin and gallery user2 can upload and delete photos)
-> User4 Gallery (All can view, but only site admin and gallery user3 can upload and delete photos)
and so on....
The Phoca Gallery install has other top level categories, i.e. for photos and other images, so I cannot make the 'Art Gallery' the only gallery in the Phoca system.
Please help
