I have honestly looked and read thru everything in regards to this question. I have seen some instances of the question in the same respect but no answers that really helped.
I am using Joomla 2.56 (most current version)
Phoca Gallery 3.2.1 (most current version)
I am wondering if there is anyway to display categories and subcategories separately.
Ex:
Main Category 1
Subcat 1-1
Subcat 1-2
Subcat 1-3
Main Category 2
Subcat 2-1
Subcat 2-2
Subcat 2-3
In other words main category 1 and 2 appear on same page, then the subcats under them appear when you click on the main category thumbs for each one.
I don't really understand the reasoning for having all cat/subcats appear on the same page. I would prefer something a bit better organized. While I have installed the menu's, I would still just prefer that cats and subcats be displayed in this manner. Is there anyway to have this made possible, even for custom work?
Thank you,
Marian

Hi, not sure If I understand you correctly: "I don't really understand the reasoning for having all cat/subcats appear on the same page". What you mean with displaying categories and subcategories separately?
Do you mean:
displaying:
Category:
- subcategory1
- subcategory2
instead of
Category
Category -> subcategory1
Category -> subcategory2
If yes, this is planned, but there are some features which can prevent from it (e.g. checking for different access rights, etc. - for example - subcategory has access rights but main category not - then there will be not possible way to display it as proposed) which needs to be solved first.

Re: Category / Subcategory Display
ok, I admit there may be something I'm not doing correctly. Here are my current settings:
Here is an idea of how my page looks when I click on the menu, it's the first thing I see when I click on gallery from my main page.

When I click on lets say the 2008 Recipe Lists it doesn't show any of the subcategories setup inside it:

I would like it if it showed the month subcategories but it doesn't.
Next, these are my admin settings:

.

.

.

the categories setup

module menu (is ok, but not alphabetical)

and how categories are setup as to access right.

Is there something I can do right now to get categories and subcategories to show up properly?

Hi, there only parent categories are displayed, try to switch to othery view type (type for Categories view) if you get all the categories and subcategories.

Re: Category / Subcategory Display
this view is categories view.
If I use category view ex: List of Images (Category View), I then have to choose a category itself, and have to make a menu item for each category/subcategory. I have no interest in going to all that work. It seems to me that because we are creating categories and subcategories in phoca gallery component that it should show the categories when I choose the List Of Categories (Categories View) in the menu and that is the current choice.
