unable to see newly created categories on frontend

Hello all,
I have a very unusual problem. I searched on all the forum without find any similar problem. I am running a joomla 1.5.23 website for many years. I have a phoca gallery inside, running categories created last year and displayed only for registeres users. Now I created new categories but for absolutely unknown reason the new ones are not displayed on the front end.
Things I tried since now without success:

I mimic every feature that is on and off in the old categories with the new ones.
I turned off some old categories tring to liberate "space" on the front end.

Interestingly, subcategories created new on the old ones are displayed correctly.

Any ideas?

Hmmm, really no idea what can be the problem there, try to recheck all the access rights - published, authorized, access rights - for groups, users, try to see settings, if empty categories (if they are empty) are displayed, if images from category are published, authorized, etc.
