image names distorted

hi,
i uploaded images to my gallery folder. the image title is in a language other than english. when i try to upload the image the title is distorted (some sort of gibrish).
is there a way for joomla and phoca to leave the name as it is ?

thank you for your reply.
i have read the information in the link you mentioned but it has no solution.
the image names do not contain " bad characters" however they contain characters in a letter other than english.
is there no way to have it maintain the names in my language?

May be titles corrupted via URL-encode. Try to use only US-ASCII character set in file name.
