General PG 3.1.5 problem

Hello,
Recently I upgraded my Joomla 1.7 to 2.5.
Now I wanted to install the PG. Downloaded the 3.1.5 version and tried to install it through the back end, but got "Error by copying file". The PG crashed in the front. So I did the manual install (copied the files from the 3.1.5 zip). It went ok, but now the control panel says I have 2.7.9 version (???).
What is the problem than?

Hi, while installing latest version of Phoca Gallery (3.1.5) per ftp, it is not possible to get info about the version as 2.7.9

Why do I get this version info?

Hi, really no idea - if you will upload 3.1.5 to your version and then you will click on ftp installation, then you cannot get such info. Try to delete previous versions manually, maybe there is some obsolete code from some previous version.

The problem is that if I delete the previous version I will not be able to install the new one. Because of the error mentioned.
