Hi, since 3.1.3 (3.1.4) the $classes is protected - if not, then seems to be some problem while overwriting new files to old on your server, in such case, just check the permissions and ownership of your files and folders

YES... Sorry, i didnt read your last reply...
It was "only" file permissions on the images folder! They were all 644 and needed to be 755...

the problem is the version of phocagallery.
Upgrade the phocagallery and the problem will be solved.
