ok first problem is solved: if I have a folder in the multiple add list I can select it , publish it and click on save without select any category , this way i get a new category with the name of the folder without any parent category

second problem: it seems I can't upload an entire folder full of images using the phoca gallery upload function , the multiple add infact does not allow me to select a folder it only allows me to select multiple single files to upload, I would like to upload via multiple add upload form aa entire single folder in order to have a folder instead of single files in the multiple add file list

yes folders should be uploaded only via FTP or media manager... the upload function in add or multiple add section is only a small help function e.g. if you forget to upload some images and you want not to go to media manager back... for uploading use the FTP or media manager

I see, I understand perfectly I'm not speaking for me but since I run a few portals and sometimes managers/moderators who keep those sites up to date are not so familiar with ftp or media manager uploading, if they had for example the possibility to create folders using multiple add system the could have a perfect categorized gallery system that would allow them to multiple upload and multiple add tons of images, do you think is possible to have some kind of create folder button in the multiple add page?

I do understand the functionality of your mult. upload manager.
But how about an extra way to upload the pictures?

Some kind of stepping process so users do understand how it works and they cannot make any mistake.

First page:
Here select all the category parameters.
- existing category (drop down box)
- new category (form field)

Here select all the upload parameters.(how to upload)
- upload pictures by .zip
- upload picasa xml output .zip (export an album in picasa in xml then zip it. the xml contains all kinds of information about the pictures etc.)
- upload by selecting (like multiple add now)
- upload by ftp (special ftp folder being scanned for pictures)

Second page:
The actual upload page, with a zip upload or the multiple uploader.

Third page
all the uploaded pictures are shown here. with select boxes above every picture to select what picture to add and what picture not to add.
then a finish button.

I hope you understand my explanation. I'm not suggesting i dislike you're multiple add but i thing this wil make your component more fool proof and easy'r to work with for dummy's. and for the pro's it just saves time i guess.

ps. hope you got my small donation?

hope you got my small donation? - yes I did, thank you very much...

the problem with upload is following... I didn't want to do any upload scripts or upload view because there is a powerful media manager in joomla, so why to do some duplicity. Or you can use the ftp... the upload I did is only a small addon, e.g. if you forget to upload some file, you will quickly upload it in add or multiple add view... the main uploading should be done by ftp or media manager...

The idea is to separate the upload and adding. Because you can add the same image into more galleries... and if you do it, the thumbnails will be not created for all categories (only one time, it can save the server space)....

The power of Phoca Gallery is in the separating both functions (upload x adding).... if you will use the zip, you must add images by a parts (because you can upload e.g. only 10 MB of data)... If you use e.g. FTP, you can upload e.g. 1000 images at a time (just only on click - copy) then you go to Multiple Add and only by one click all images will be created ... not by parts as e.g. by ZIP upload ... this is what users wanted and what users like and I did it for them ... and I still said that no upload function will be created, but I have done it (because of user's wishes), so now it can be confusing, Phoca Gallery take more size and there is a duplicity in Joomla! I still think, Gallery should not substitute the file manager

I have the same problem
I need to clear that list easily
I have over 3000 images on the list
all of them are named something like img_0067.jpg

its impossible to find the files that I upload
and a total time consuming process to go in and delete them on the ftp

I dred uploading to my gallery becuase its like a 10 step process now
and takes forever to find the right files

why cant we just clear that list?
that would make things so so much smoother

please read the topics in the forum, there are so many reasons why you should not delete the original files on your server:

- recreating thumbnails
- download original images
- information about image
- piclens
- rotating image
....

it is only displaying of your files on your server (you should use folders). Did you ever seen the file manager with e.g. pagination? Or does your windows manager delete files because there are lots of files for view them ?

okay tried using FTP method to multi-upload

MUCH EASIER

basic steps

1. prep image and upload via ftp to the specified folder and subfolder
2. create category in Phoca
3. select folder of images from the list in the multi-upload section
4. selcte proper category and select all images in that folder
5. click save

wow that was fast!

I will have to go back and reorganize my entire gallery, but this keeps everything neet and tidy
clearly labeled and easy to find.
plus with the files exisiting in the media manager in some sort of subfolder
they are availble for other programs to use such as blog posts, newsletters, etc etc.

no need to clear that list because now because the list is a list of clearly labeled folders and not just one big list of images.

good work!
