Gallery does not appear in Drop Down component menu

I have installed the gallery twice to see if I had goofed. There is no link from the component drop down to the Phoca Gallery to access the Phoca Gallery Control Panel. Secondly, when I access images from the control panel, at the bottom of the page there is this error message. I am not sure what to make of it.

500 - An error has occurred.
JHtml: :batch not supported. File not found

I am using Joomla 1.6 and phocagallery_v3.1.1

Ok........ This is what I did. I uninstalled Joomla 1.6.3 and installed Joomal 1.7. Then installed Phoca Gallery. The gallery shows up on the drop down component menu, the formatting is perfect in the admin. Oh... I think I have found the true meaning of life.
