[Feature request] Per user gallery

It could be great to allow registered users to create their own galleries from the frontend. I think that it's not very difficult to allow that each user can create a single custom category to upload pictures and make default permissions to allow only that user (and admins of course) can upload and modify or delete pictures into that gallery.

I think that it's not very difficult to allow that each user can create a single custom category It is very very difficult because of possible collisions between different rights and possible problems while thumbnail creating ... I was making this a half of a year...

There are some rights for users:
- view the category
- add the images into the category
- publish or unpublish the images
- delete the images

Administrator must set the rights for the users, so user cannot do own gallery (because of possible rights and settings about thumbnail creating - which have not only local effect), but he can have own gallery (category) with different rights, see:

Thanks for your answer, but i'm not sure to understand the problem. Why isn't it possible to assign all those default permissions for a new category when the user creates it? Imagine for example a new registered user, he goes to a page at the frontend where he can create a new category (his own gallery) and give it a name. Then the script creates that new category assigning default access rights, upload and delete to that user and also the user folder (under the main phocagallery folder).

The new created category is the personal user gallery where he can upload and manage his pictures. Each user can have his own category and that user can only upload pictures into his own category... Working this way, each category is a personal user gallery.

I hope that you can understand now my idea...

Hi, I understand,

added it into the feature request list:
- add parameter - user get automatically all rights,
- add the behaviour for creating category,
- add behaviour for creating the folder,
- add security behaviour for creating the folder on the disc,
- add parameters to automatically set disc space limit,
- add parameters to automatically set the max upload limit,
- add the form for creating the folder), ...

Hi, you cannot see them, because I don't have time for adding them there (I see the new features here in the forum - marked as [Feature request]...)

when do you think that this new version will be available ... I don't have any plans for new versions ... I these days I am successfull if I answer all the topics in the forum after my work ...

The problem is that I do this project by myself but usually such projects are made by larger teams ...

Ahh, finally... someone else out there looking for the same thing I am. =] This is exactly what I've been hoping to find in an image gallery for Joomla! 1.5.

However, I'd love for users to be able to create categories/directories in their own user directory, as well. That would allow them to categorize their images and be more organized. For instance, the site I'll be running will be a host for artists. So, WIP (Works In Progress), Sketches, Finished Works, etc. could be possible categories under each user dir.
