PG 3.1.0 RC Errors (Front-end & Back-end)

Post by Scotty87 »

Current info:
http://eastvswest.ca
Joomla 1.7.2 (Was on 1.7.0 but upgraded to see if would resolved)
Phoca Gallery 3.1.0 RC
Database Version - 5.0.91-community-log
PHP Version - 5.2.16

I haven't encountered any problems elsewhere and think it may be isolated around Phoca Gallery but I can provide admin/FTP access to the site if it makes it easier.

The issue is around uploading/generating thumbnails

Front-End:
Single or Multiple upload (Have tried all kinds html5, flash, etc)

Under each photo this comes up briefly:
COM_PHOCAGALERY_ERROR: Unable to upload file

Then:
Count of not uploaded (failed) images: 3 (I tried 3)

It actually does upload them to the server although doesn't add them anywhere in Joomla/Phoca. Seems only the image files are making it and then it most stop.

When I try in the back-end:
Multiple Upload works fine.

When it tried to generate thumbnail:

Warning: file_put_contents(/home/####/public_html/images/phocagallery/thumbs/index.html) [function.file-put-contents]: failed to open stream: Permission denied in /home/eastvswe/public_html/libraries/joomla/filesystem/file.php on line 359

Warning: file_put_contents(/home/####/public_html/images/phocagallery/thumbs/phoca_thumb_s_steve_gosling_photography.jpg) [function.file-put-contents]: failed to open stream: Permission denied in /home/eastvswe/public_html/libraries/joomla/filesystem/file.php on line 359

Warning: file_put_contents(/home/####/public_html/images/phocagallery/thumbs/phoca_thumb_m_steve_gosling_photography.jpg) [function.file-put-contents]: failed to open stream: Permission denied in /home/eastvswe/public_html/libraries/joomla/filesystem/file.php on line 359

Warning: file_put_contents(/home/####/public_html/images/phocagallery/thumbs/phoca_thumb_l_steve_gosling_photography.jpg) [function.file-put-contents]: failed to open stream: Permission denied in /home/eastvswe/public_html/libraries/joomla/filesystem/file.php on line 359

And then:

Error Message: Phoca Gallery cannot save files on your server

What to do now: - No Action
*Image (wrong type or broken image) - remove the image or upload new image via e.g. FTP
*GD Library (not correctly working GD library, not working GD functions) - install or reinstall GD library
*Permissions (no rights to write files or folders) - change the permissions of image/phocagallery folders on your server,

...

We had no problems until we upgraded Phoca due to a front-end issue in the previous version.

Hi, this seems like some permissions problem where filesystem of Joomla! cannot write thumbnails on the server, but why only if frontend upload is used, really no idea. :-( Search this forum and try to set different settings, like FTP layer or enable/disable writing of thumbnails with JFile method, see:

Thanks for the reply Jan,

I've actually figured out the reason for the problem although not quite sure if there's a work around. We normally set the Joomla log/tmp files outside the public_html folder for security reasons. While we've never encountered a problem before, this seemed to have set it off.

I switched the Joomla path to tmp back to /home/####/public_html/tmp and it's now working fine again.

Do you think this is something that could be resolved on your end to work in the future or is it other limitations preventing this from happening?

Hi, I think, this should be a question on Joomla! developers, as installation and folder selecting is made by Joomla! itself.
