Creating a menu of categories

I must apologize first by saying i am new to Joomla and Phoca however I am a very quick learner.
My site is as follows:
http://www.indopacificcoral.com/joomla/homepage

I want to list the categories in the menu on the right side (Main menu). right now there a link that when clicked displays the categories on the page.

I want to be able to click the category on the right side and display the thumbnails of the the pictures in that category on the page.

Hi, then just create menu links to category view, not to categories view:

I got it figured out now. The terminology is a bit misleading but it is working good now.
