width of phocagallery user-panel

Hello
I have a frontend template that restricts table width to 500px for the components. This is what I want for the general website style.
When a user logs in and goes to the linked page of user-panel, the panel is of course displayed within the limited table width.
Now I would like to map the user-panel to a different index.php, which would link to a different css file, changing the values of the table width (component). Can you please give me a hint, how I can achieve that?
What I tried so far (unsuccessful results):
1. Link the user-menu entry to "New window with/without Browser Navigation". This helps for the first screen, but what ever next step is chosen (select category, select image..) the page layout goes back to the initial setting of limited width.
2. Update the user-menu entry to point to the administrator page (I did this in the database table itself) does not help, as the user is not an administrator I guess.
3. Put the link to point to index2.php (I think that is the index.php, the admin page points to)... no better result.
Now I am running out of ideas. Can you help me?
