Backend Admin Image Upload crashes IE

Good morning,

I have had phoca gallery installed on one of my client's websites for months now, without issues. He has been using IE 8.0. Everything seemed to be working great.

However, recently his IE browser has been crashing every time he does the following:

-Log in to the joomla backend,go to phoca gallery component.
-Go to the images section.
-Click on the 'New' icon.
-Click on the 'Image' select button in the form that appears.
-The image select/upload box (sorta appears like a lightbox) begins to appear.
-IE crashes, then restores the tab to my images section.
-If he attempts it again, it may restore my tab, or just say the page could not be found.

I have a feeling that it all has to do with the javascript that makes the 'lightbox' appear.

I have upgraded to the newest version, 2.8.0, just incase that would resolve the issue, but it has not.

It is not his computer only, as it does the same thing to my IE browser (same version). However, my programmer has tested it on his IE and it doesnt crash it.

I have tested in FF, and it works fine. However, the client wants to continue using his IE browser.

Is there a way to resolve this?

Hi, I think, this is more a question on IE developers. Tested in IE and working OK for me now. But really cannot say, why on some IE + OS combination there are some errors - do you get some error message fromt the IE?

Absolutely no error messages. It's really weird.

Anyway why not use a real browser for administration (Firefox, Chrome, Seamonkey, Safari, Opera)?

I have been having a similar issue lately that I haven't been able to pin-point the source cause of when accessing the same image dialogs above. I'm using FF13.0.1, J2.5.6, and Phoca Gallery 3.2.0. I suspect, like jdb above and hackybrazil (viewtopic.php?f=1&t=3795), that it is a java issue of some sort. But what confuses me is that it worked fine back in April (last time I added a bunch of pictures), but since then and whichever upgrades (both Joomla and PhocaGallery) have come out in that time, it has become quite unstable and, I think, causing the server load to spike and quit serving pages to the point where I cannot even login to the CPanel and have to wait several minutes (sometime up to 30 minutes, sometimes less than 3) for whatever is happening to run its course. I know this is not very helpful, but it is where I am at the moment in my debugging stage. Any thoughts or ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Finally able to get into the backend of the site again and was able to disable the java uploader which seems to have corrected the issue. I think what may have been happening is that the java uploader caused the web browser to send excessive requests to the server which caused it start blocking access to me; however, I am not in a hurry to debug this theory as I have it working now.
