Multi language in frontend

I use the last version of phocagallery in french and need to install an italian version of my website.
I created the language/it-IT folder with the italian .ini files inside.
How can I ask the system to switch in Italian the frontend language for Phoca applications?

NB: 1)Wld prefer not to reinstall the basis version of phocagallery in Italian
2)Apparently Joomfish not yet upgraded to suite with Joomla 1.6

Hi, this is more Joomla!.org question, you need to install both languages (e.g. copy the files, maybe in Joomla! 1.6 the language must be installed through the installation manager - to save info into database and then set in language manager)

Then you need to enable language switcher module and plugin.
