Multiple load:corruption of directory structure

Post by bibbp »

I loaded about 5Gig of photos (about 1800) and pressed the Multiple Add function. This crashed with an internal system error. I thought the volume was too large, so then I set the pagination parameters to try and create the thumbnails as I scroll through the 95 pages. Some of them hung and I could not thereafter get to (or back to) the image page. As suggested in the documentation I then looked into the media section, and I now notice that when I display certain categories (detail or thumbnail view) then the entire site root directory structure is shown, not just the category. This is obviously a corruption somewhere. During the load of the pictures I did change the names of some of the directories, and a message came up saying "old directory not found, // used" when I went into Phocagallery. Please can you help me unpick this? If at all possible I would prefer not to load the pictures again because it takes so long! Thank you.

Hi, mostly all depends on memory on your sever. I think 5GB is too much to work at once on the server :-(

What takes the memory?

1) when GD library on server makes thumbnails (but it does do it per scripts)
2) when the server checks for the not created thumbnails - so this is why you should enable pagination thumbnail creating from beginning - Phoca will translate folders to categories and then checks only e.g. 20 images (or 50, or 100) - per pagination set in administration (loading e.g. of 100 items should work ok - this 100 items will be checked in foreach, so there should not be problem with memory)

You should prepare the structure of your folders and images on your PC and then ftp upload it - After it, you should use the multiple add with pagination thumbnail creating enabled.

Not sure in which phase you are now, what went wrong on the server, so maybe you need to remove all the categories and images from database and run the multiple add again, maybe you should do it step by step, per folders, e.g.

Thank you Jan for your really prompt response. I have decided to reinstall Phoca and set my directory structure exactly as I want it before I start. I have deleted the thumbnail directories that were created, and will try again.
Best regards

Hi, no experiences with "no wrapper" error, maybe you need to reinstall the Joomla! too
