Unable to upload in front end.

Post by greggalus »

Hello. I want registered users to be able to upload in the front end of my site. I am able to upload in the back end. I created a gallery and allow uploading to all registered users. Eventhough I am the only one that has attempted to upload. When I attempt to upload in the front end, nothing happens. It shows that it is loading and no image or info shows up telling why it did not work. I dont get an error message or anything. I have read some other posts in here saying to change the template to one of the standard joomla ones. I get the same result. Am I missing something? I have only the component installed. Is there a plugin or something that you need in order to upload in the front end? I hope you can help.
Thanks, Greg.

Hello. I updated the php.ini file and I still get no error report. I also looked at the documentation again for the component. It says that there needs to be a folder specified for in the category manager (components>phoca>category>edit category). In the documentation it calls the field where the front end images will be uploaded the "user folder." In my category editor there is only a field called "owner folder." The images uploaded in the back end are also not uploading to this folder that i've selected in the owner folder field. There are uploading to the main phocagallery folder. I have the other fields regarding image uploading and deleting set to all registered users. Should the field for the folder on my end be called "user folder" and not "owner folder"? If so what could be done to get the images going in this folder? Thanks for the help.

I switched the templates and it said that I did not have a valid user folder. I went in and selected a folder and then tried again. This time I am getting the "not valid image" message. The images I have tried to upload are jpg images. They have a file size of about 5M. I also change the parameters to accept such a large image and I have changed the acceptable size in the php.ini file. I am stuck and have spent several hours trying to figure this out. I hope you can help. Thanks

Hi, did you try to upload smaller images, maybe the script will stop working because the GD library returns fatal error (no memory for creating thumbnail from Image which is so large :-( :-(

Thanks for the help. The pictures I have been uploading are the largest size from an SLR camera. I guess most of the users will not be using such a camera. It worked with images from a smaller camera. Hopefully the gallery will work good enough for my purposes. Thanks again.

What is the largest size the gallery can upload. Will it still only be 3MB even if you change it in the back end and php.ini. Is there a way to have the gallery upload larger pictures?

Is there any way to adjust the GD library so it will accept larger images? Such as finding the file on the server and editing it. Will a larger thumbnail size work? I will try that. Thanks again.

Hello. I also tried to upload a picture that is 2.93MB in size which is smaller than the original allowed size of the gallery upon shipment. I adjusted my php.ini to allow 30MB and also increased memory. Is the GD library the only library that can be used. I also have Imagemagic on my server which is said to be better than GD library. is there any way to use this image processing? I am able to put a large image up from the back end and the thumbnails were produced fine. I would really like to allow a larger image size from the front end as I don't expect my users to know how to re-size an image. I guess I could add instructions. This is a nice gallery application. Perhaps a future update of the application could allow larger images to be uploaded posting.php?mode=reply&f=1&t=13829# ? You could probably even charge a little for it and people would buy ithttp://www.phoca.cz/forum/posting.php?mode=reply&f=1&t=13829#

Hi, all in fact depends on your server, so the GD library functionality depends on memory on your server. The GD was selected because it is one with most advantages (described in the forum). Using other method must be customized in the code :-( :-(
