I'm interested to adapt spanish translation to new version. It is necessary to rewrite all strings or it's posible to add som selected strings?

Hi, in Phoca Gallery 3, there are completely new strings because of new format in Joomla! 1.6
the string names are changed, the translations are partially the same.
