I've searched the forums and read the FAQ. Found several topics on modules and plugins of Phoca gallery not working with SEF but my problems shows at a fresh installation and creating a menu link.
The normal link does work: index.php?option=com_phocagallery&view=categories
But a SEF url does not work, no changes to the Joomla Core have been made. The SEF fix in the download area is not helpfull as it is out of date.
Hopefully someone knows the answer!

Hi, can I see the site where this occurs?
Anyway, Phoca does not create the links, they are created by Joomla! JRoute method. So if SEF does not work, there is some problem outside Phoca.

Ok, offcourse Phoca is not responsible for the links 
Funny part is: When I add a link form phoca to a parent menu item a 404 message pops up. When I create a new parent link (phoca link) and a child link to phoca in the menu.. everything works fine
Could be server/php settings? I tested on our testing domain, all worked fine. Our test site is unfortunatly hosted not on the same server settings as our live site. Live site were the error occurs: http://gthq.nl. The links to phoca are only available for special users.

Hmm, really no idea.
First it must be tested if everything is OK without SEF,
then it should be tested which Itemid the link get and try to see the Itemid, maybe there can be found some problem

Unfortunatly Ican't turn off SEF on my the live site...but on testing when non sef urls are used everything works fine.
Thanks for your thoughts on this issue, it is certainly not phoca alone, probally phoca is just not linked correctly on a faulty (i guess) parent menu item.Everything else works with that parent item, but phoca not. Even when I add phoca on a different existing parent item it does work ok.
I will just create a new menu parent item and add the old items and phoca to it

Thnx but that doesn't fit my situation...Or I misunderstood the article
I don't use any phoca gallery plugin or module at the moment. It occurs on random existing menu items as parent. I "got it working" by just creating a new parent id for Phoca instead of assigning phoca to an existing parent.
