Updating files associated with documents

How does one update files associated with the phoca download document? In other words, I want to update pdfs associated with records in the phoc download table.

A file is entered with a description in the database. I want to keep the description but overwrite the file. if I upload the same file name, I get an error. How can I get around that?

Some ppl called it Versioning
Filename-1.0
Filename-1.1
1.2 and so on.
Old files can be kept just in case, or removed via Extplorer or FTP.

Actually, I would be happy if I could just REPLACE the file. DOCMAN provides an option to allow overwriting files.
