The random image plugin (works wonderfully) displays the entire thumbnail, is there a setting that allows the same display in galleries / categories so the entire thumbnail is display rather than the cropped square ones I'm seeing? I've hunted through the settings and can not find one.
Many Thanks ....
Nigel.

Re: thumbnail display in galleries
Hi,
in the settings there is a setting called 'crop thumbnails' (with thumbnails creation settings). if you set this to none, then no thumbnails will be cropped.
You have to recreate your existings thumbnails, so that you'll see them. (you can do that by deleting the 'thumbs' folder from your server, or in the 'thumbs' folder deleting the small and medium images)
Regards, Carolien

Re: thumbnail display in galleries
Carolien,
Thanks for the tip. I discovered that I had three versions of thumbnails in the thumb folder.
But now I'm getting something even more strange happening (I think it was like this before).
Ignore the next bit, I see what's happening. Everything is being classified as a thumb that's smaller than the original. Can I safely delete the original now that I have the correct thumb and re-sized photograph?
I'm getting a copy of the original photograph and the thumbnail.
phoca_thumb_l_ste-v - 012.jpg - 74.65 Kb 466 x 700 74.65 Kb
phoca_thumb_l_ste-v - 026.jpg - 121.92 Kb 466 x 700 121.92 Kb
And the thumbnail that gallery is using
phoca_thumb_m_ste-v - 012.jpg - 3.39 Kb 66 x 100 3.39 Kb
phoca_thumb_m_ste-v - 026.jpg - 3.46 Kb 66 x 100 3.46 Kb
As reported my Media manager.
This is going to waste a lot of disk space over time.
Nigel.

Re: thumbnail display in galleries
Hi,
Phoca Gallery doesn't use the originals anymore when thumbnails are created.
When you want to recreate the thumbnails you need the originals again. So if you don't recreate the thumbnails you can delete the originals.
Regards, Carolien

Sadly that's not quite true. I followed your advice and deleted all the uploaded images that I had used. The next time I went into "Images" I had the little "No Picture" displaying. On checking my server all the "thumbnails" in the /thumb directory had vanished. No warning, no nothing. Just deleted.caro84g wrote:Phoca Gallery doesn't use the originals anymore when thumbnails are created.
Fortunately I had a saved version of my /public_html directory so I put them all back. As a test I deleted all the originals for one gallery and exactly the same thing happened.
Everything is working correctly again.
The only part of Phoca that seems to use these images (and incorrectly in my opinion as they are far to large to be serving from a web server and for GD to give good results you have to pass to it high quality uncompressed jpgs) is the Piclens option. That seems to use the original image rather than then "large re-sized one.

Thanks for mentioning, I really thought it worked that way (and didn't test it recently).Nigel_Aves wrote:Sadly that's not quite true. Re: thumbnail display in galleries
Hi, original images are not removed by the Phoca Gallery, this can be removed by ftp or media manager (search the reason for this behaviour in this forum, where this is explained)
