installation problem guestbook

Hi all,
after a long night with reading this forum, I've not found a solution, so here I am:
I set up a Joomla 1.5 page for a neighbour.
Joomla 1.5.11, php5...
We prepared all components on local Xampp - all worked well.
Then I moved everything to my webspace with Filezilla.
I know, that "safe mod" is on - and I can not install any component via Joomla installer or FTP (Joomla)
As I said all worked, but guess, phocaguestbook, I got this nice white page while opening the Guestbook.
As Jan wrote already, do not copy phocaguestbook to webspace, I have no other solution but copy it.
So I turned debug mode on and got this:
"Fatal error: Call to undefined function ctype_lower() in /home/www/myserver/html/joomla/components/com_phocaguestbook/assets/library/HTMLPurifier/Token.php on line 70"
Is there any chance to use this great component on "safe mod Joomla"?
My hoster will not turn this safe mod off, already asked him.
All kind of help is aprechiated, if there is already a working solution in this forum, pls do not kill me, I searched more than 4 hours without being lucky.

Hi all,
I found the solution by my own.
I asked my Hoster to turn safe mod off - uplod works, page remains blank.
Even a reinstall helped nothing.
Deistalled PocaGuestbook 1.3.2 and installed version 1.3.1i - all is OK
