GST Tax in Australia

Post by redback »

Hello, please excuse my ignorance.
I have done a search through this forum on how to setup taxes in Phoca cart.
I understand setting up the Dynamic Tax Rate in Options but not how to do the following;
1) Set GST Tax 10% to be applied to customers in Australia only. (i have created a GST Tax
2) Zero Tax applied to the rest of the world.

In Taxes I have create GST Tax 10% and Product Prices (tax and netto)
Then in Taxes I have create Zero Tax 0% and Product Prices (tax and netto)

How do I now set Australia to have GST and the rest of the world Zero tax.

Many thanks in advance.

Cheers

Hi, the dynamic tax rate works in fact reverse way in this case. You set for all the zero tax and assign to country Australia 10% for this zero tax and when someone orders from Australia, and system knows he/she is from Australia, the tax will be changed. This happens in checkout based on the address

Other way could be doing simliar plugin like VAT plugin for EU, where based on the address, the tax is changed - e.g. all have tax 20% and when some company with valid VAT set their address, then the VAT is changed to other VAT (to zero)

So there are two options:
- tax can be changed based on country or region
- or tax can be changed by plugin based on specific rules

In your case, maybe better solution to have similar plugin to EU VAT plugin (https://www.phoca.cz/phocacart-extensio ... ion-plugin) where it changes VAT based on specific conditions to e.g. zero -

So your shop will have standard australian tax 10% and when somebody add address outside the Australia, it will be changed to zero. But unfortunately such plugin needs to be customized.

Another way (but not simple) is to set the 10% tax for Australia and for each other country to set 0 - so users outside of Australia will get 0 when setting the address. This is possible to do in current system without any plugin but you need to set it for each country.
