Sort items into categories

Good evening, I'm trying to sort articles into different categories, but the front-end result doesn't match.
I think I have tried all the possible combinations in the options and the result does not change.
What am I doing wrong?

Hi, what do you mean with articles? Do you mean products? If you sort the products in backend, then the result will be displayes when the ordering is set "order by ordering".

Thanks, always very kind, yes by article I meant product.
I can't find "order by ordering" in the backend, in the frontend or even in the options.
Can you kindly tell me where to set it?
I didn't even find it in Documentation.

I think I solved it, I hadn't activated sorting in the frontend and therefore it didn't work.

Almost successful ...
I can order the products in the subcategory but not in the parent category, is this normal?

Why you are not able to order in parent category? Does the parent category include products?
