Solved - What is the purpose of 'TEXT'?

Post by akerman »

Hi,

in the backend /Files/ and next to the 'New' button, there is a 'Text' button.

With this you obviously can add text into a Section/Category so that it appears just before the category listing. All very nice... but what is the purpose? I mean Sections have a description text, categories have a description text, files has their own description...

I can't really see that you've used this feature in the demo either...? :!:

Since the category view contain a 'text-only' option I suspect that this is a possible selection if you just want to write some text and include some kind of external link or other pointer internal or external?

It would be nice with a confirmation on the usage for the 'Text-only'.

BTW. The more I use this component the more of a DocMan 'killer' I think it is. Mainly because three things:
1. It has so far almost all features of DocMan (missing possibility of sub-categories and license texts)
2. Possibility to use any type of content in descriptions (ex via JCE editor) DocMan strips everything.
3. An active forum and a extremely active developer that seems to live on caffeine
(...yes, that's you Jan... )
DocMan is very still as a community, it works...but very still...

 I hope I find time to create:

- categories and subcategories like in Phoca Gallery
- pagination

Do you have any idea how to add "license" button?

TEXT --- hmmm ... this is an obsolete item in Phoca Download... E.g. I am using it for Heading or some information, e.g. here:

https://www.phoca.cz/documentation/index ... -component
Phoca Gallery Component is stored on joomlacode.org server (the download link is an external link to this server, if the file will be not downloaded, please try to visit this link )
But now I have added the description which can be displayed over, below the image and in the overlib effect... so the reason why it is still there:
- backward compatability (e.g. I am still using it :- on download site)
- you can write here some other text as in the description... so e.g. you want to write other text as you will use in overlib effect

So it is obsolete now but I think I should not remove this feature...

Hi,

ah, I suspected that about TEXT - Actually it looked kind of logical when I tried it out. It could maybe give some clarity to an overall section/category listing. I think you can leave it, just add some explanation on how it can be used.

License
Well, personally I'm imitating the major template clubs and has added a subscription system with payment services via 2CO (2Checkout) and PayPal. (PayPal is easy to work with, whilst 2CO tend to have a lot of demands on their 'vendors'/customers) (System comes from JoomSuite w paybuttons added and ready).
The genius thing about JoomSuite Member, is that it can handle any type of content/component!.

The logic behind a 'subscription' is that the customer/subscriber, pays for the electronic access to the goods and service and not for the goods/service themselves. This way it becomes very simple for you as a vendor, since you continue with the same type of GPL (or a CC license) and any guarantees for functionality or continuation of service will be 'as-is'. Just like it is today. Only the access is governed by the 'subscription'. Any restriction of the actual software license is up to you.

Drop me an e-mail if you need more details in regards of this.
