Different settings just for one category or sub-category?

Post by FabZ »

Hi all,
I have a question about Categories customization:
is it possible to set different setting just for one category or sub-category?
My exemple:

I set in 'Preferences'> 'CATEGORIES VIEW SETTINGS LABEL' > 'Show [Categories Detail view]' as Global

Now I need setting my "last" sub-category in the gallery as ...> 'CATEGORIES VIEW SETTINGS LABEL' > 'Show'.

By the way, creating new J! menus with PV layout, it's possible to set and save different configurations than 'global settings'.

Any chanche to do that out of the J! menu panel? :)

...I hope I do not say anything obvious :x

PS Maybe it could be an interesting option, for the future, to have the possibility to save different configurations and assign them from the categories panel inside Phocagallery.

Anyway...it's a great extension! 8)

Thanks a lot!

Hi,

when you create a menu link to a phocagallery item, you can change the component parameters for that menu item. So per menu item you can change settings.

So it's not per category, but per menu item.

I hope this solves your problem

Hi caro84g,
well, the problem is just a little bit more complicated;
PG has not "explicit" settings for "singular" category.
Suppose I have my category and subcategories:

Category [a]>>subcategory [1a]>>subcategory [2a]

1# Category [a] and subcategory [1a] have these setting specifications:
'CATEGORIES VIEW SETTINGS LABEL' > 'Show [Categories Detail view]'
'SWITCH IMAGE SETTINGS LABEL' > Switch Image 'No'

2# Subcategory [2a] has these 'different' setting specifications:
'CATEGORIES VIEW SETTINGS LABEL' > 'Show'
'SWITCH IMAGE SETTINGS LABEL' > Switch Image 'Yes'

Browsing my gallery I'll have settings1# for Category [a] and subcategory [1a] switching to settings2# for subcategory [2a].

It results in really functional pages and browsing composition (well, in my opinion )

Is it possible to have that with an hack anywhere or it's an heavy and really complicated matter?

Thanks for your answer :)
Bye!

Hi, in Joomla! settings depends on Itemid...

so e.g.
if you go to menu link (Itemid = 1) of phoca gallery (categories view) and you see categories, you will have settings of the menu link (Itemid = 1), if you go through the categories into category view and then into some other subcategory, the Itemid will still have the Itemid = 1) .... 1 = categories view settings... but if you will create e.g. menu link (Itemid = 3) direct to the subcategory so you will have this settings:

- you go direct to this subcategory (Itemid = 3) Settings will be applied by this categories
- you go through the menu link "categories view" (Itemid = 1) into this subcategory (categories -> category -> subcategory) the the settings will be applied by categories view (Itemid = 1)

Hi Jan,
thanks for your explanation.
I tryed with redirection, from an itemid to an other, it partially works but anyway looking for a navigation inside Phocagallery I need an "all category" url redirection when I'm in last subcategories...I say, it's a few CMS friendly :D
Ok, at the end I finded quite a balance in what I needed an what PG can do now.

But just one more question...the last.
Now I'm looking for a way to stop visualisation of switched image when categories are empty, starting from "SWITCH IMAGE SETTINGS LABEL" set to "Yes".

Any suggestion?

Thanks again :)

Hi, I don't understand... if the category is empty, then there should not be a switch image behaviour...

Sorry, I meant subcategory not category.
When I browse subcategory with no images inside I see the "phoca_thumb_l_no_image.gif" 640x480 and the "loading gif".

Germany >> Vehycles >> Cars
.........................>> Motorcycles
...........>> kit chen >> Food
........................ >> Drink

I don't really need to put images in Subcategories "Vehycles" and "kitchen", but for the following subcat. I do.
I need a structure for catalogation but behaviours are different (here my first post about different individual settings for category or sub-category inside cat. panel).

...and if the switched images had size px 0x0 if there wan't image in subcat folder?
Is it possible? Can you point me to the right starting...strings, if it was possible?

Thanks again.
Bye :)

I think no... as I wrote, the settings comes with Itemid and if itemid is still the same and you have e.g. set switch image for itemid then in all gallery pages in which the itemid has set the switch image, the switch image behaviour will be there... I will take a look at it to add e.g. some if clause (in case there is no image on the site, no switch image will be added) ... added into a feature request list...
