Hi,
Strange, but true. I installed the 3.1.1 version of Phoca Gallery in my joomla 1.7.
Created multiple categories.
I use several languages.
Installed the PG Tree module.
Created separate language PG Tree modules for every language.
Now I wanted to translate the first category, but it is not possible. I can create a NEW category and select the language in the options, but it will not be the translation, it will be a NEW category. All the pictures would have to be imported to a new language folder etc. Moreover, in the PG Tree menu ALL categories are being displayed, icluding the new language ones.
Funny, as in joomla 1.5 the joomfish component did the whole trick.
And how to translate categories in joomla 1.7, where joomfish does not work?
Regards
Kordian

Hi, if new multilanguage feature in Joomla! 1.7 does not fit your needs then Joom!fish for 1.7 needs to be used. But for now there are no Joom!fish plugins for Phoca Gallery 3.x
BTW: I think, this is more a question on Joomla! core developers
regarding translation != new

The joomla multilanguage feature is OK and looks fine.
The problem is that Phoca Gallery seems not to suport it - when I set language in PG category, the category is displayed in all languages in the PG Tree module.

Re: How to translate categories in Joomla 1.7
Hi.
Long time...
Okay let's go to the problem... last days I launched website with Gallery, and later I have added multilingual support for that website. Of course i faced the problem Phoca Gallery isn't supporting multilanguage support for category names and descriptions without doubling the content.
There is a solution, if You don't want to create double sized (with doubled pictures!) gallery in two languages (or triple if you use three languages), just download and install this plugin: http://extensions.joomla.org/extensions ... tent/19439
The usage is very simple.
Example (in category name)
{lang en}Italy - Venice (Summer 2011){/lang} {lang pl}Włochy - Wenecja (lato 2011){/lang}
will show Italy - Venice (Summer 2011) for english users, and Włochy - Wenecja (lato 2011) for polish users.
Use your language code for your language, like de or it or no or cz or whatever you want
The Easy Language plugin will work with following fields in Phoca Gallery 3.x, without additional Joomla add-ons (only built-in Joomla 2.5 language support) :
- category title
- category description
- image title
- image description
- category meta description
- category keywords
and maybe more, but i didn't test more. For me it's enough.
If you want to see this plugin with Phoca Gallery in action, there is: http://www.est.mx4.pl
First Phoca Category (Genova) has description and meta description and meta keywords in two languages and first picture in this category has the name translated too. Enjoy

Re: How to translate categories in Joomla 1.7
hi,
I'm using easy languague for Phoca Gallery and it works pretty good.
The only problem that I have is the following:
In Category View I can see the categories in the different languages -> OK
Underneath I see the category icons with the text {lang en}Text english{/lang}.
How can I do that this icons are not displayed at all?? I don't need them since I already have the categories listed above.
I've search overall but I cannot get it!
See example in following link:
http://novartis-sport.ch/test/index.php ... 42&lang=en
Many thanks!

Re: How to translate categories in Joomla 1.7
hi,
I've resolved the problem. I set "Display Folder Icon" to yes and now the name of the category is correctly displayed.
The icons are still displayed but since the category name is correctly shown in the different languages, it is no problem at all.
