File icon question

I don't think I understand how to change the file icon. I see three fields in file detail view (viewed from backend) labeled icon, specific icon 1 and specific icon 2. So I concluded that adding an icon there (in my case one for PDF) will change the icon in front of the file download button (in teh article) which is not happening. The generic icon with down green arrow still displays.

Second question is, why are there three fields for an icon and what do they don't replace the default icon?

Specific Icons 1 and 2 are for special purpose - check download section here, do you see Joomla! 1.5 and Joomla 1.6 icons ? Those are the specific icon fields.
