Hi Everyone
I am sure this has been asked many times before but I cannot find anything in the documentation or forums, so please accept my apologies!
I am trying to understand if the the categories can be "sectioned" in some way so that certain menu options lead to a Category List layout showing a certain group of galleries, and another menu option can lead to a second (or third, etc) Category List layout showing a different group of galleries.
For example, on my site I have broadly two different types of galleries. One type is for individual property listings, showing several images for each property, and therefore I need a Category List layout for the "Property" type of galleries, and then I have other galleries for geographical areas, so I need ideally a second Category List layout for "Area" galleries.
As I understand it, at the moment when I make a menu item that links to a Category List layout, it will show ALL the categories, even though they actually fall into distinct groups. So what I am trying to make are menu items that can show:
1. a List of "Area" galleries
2. a List of "Property" galleries.
can anyone explain to a noob how to do this?
many thanks
Neil
ps the site in question is www.avilla1.com/one

Re: Organising Categories
Hi,
there are two possible menu link options: categories view (showing all categories in the root, with or without subcategories) and category view (which can point to any category, showing it's images and/or subcategories).
What I suggest is to not use the first view, but create two categories in the root for your two types of images and use a category-link to each of those two categories. Then organize your images in subcategories:
- Area
- area subcategory 1
- area subcategory 2
- area subcategory 3
- ...
- Property
- property subcategory 1
- property subcategory 2
- property subcategory 3
- ...
It's possible to adjust the views to suit your needs, eg. categories view in category layout -> see documentation on global configuration for details!
Another way would be to create 2 categories view links and use the hide/show category filter in the component parameters of these menu links. But then these have to be updated each time you add a category...
regards,
rk
