christine wrote: 01 Sep 2023, 12:42 As I already wrote: there are no pictures in your landscape menu.

That's why I tried to "recreate" it and wrote down my ways how I managed it. I.e. check the connection to menus & categories.

Kind regards
Christine
Well, this is another "phenomenon" - in the menu item, if I specify Filter Parent Category ID, there will be nothing displayed.
In my case, Nature Gallery has no Filter Parent Category ID specified and you can see various categories, including "Landscapes" (now with pictures for you). This "Landscapes" category has ID945. If I write 945 in the Filter Parent Category ID menu option, the result is empty page.
The Nature menu has no ID specified, and everything is displayed. If I change it and write any id in the Filter Parent Category ID of the menu, everything is gone.
Thank you in advance for help!

Here's how I set the categories:

In the category itself, I selected: General Options, Parent Category: nothing.

(A parent category could be for example):
museum
subcategory of museum: nature

Menu Settings:

Yes, the same by me.
Only that menu items are List of categories, not List of images.

The reason why I chose List of images instead of List of Categories is that the desired menu only contains the images from its category.

I have now switched back to List of Categories. (Testsite).
But: now, of course, both menu folders can be seen. Nevertheless, the view is right for me when I click.
If I click on Folder Nature: I get the images of Nature etc.

I have NO PG menus on my live site.
Means: Only 1 menu, which contains categories. Example: Menu = Gallery
Category 1 - Category 2 - Category 3 etc. Clicking on Category 1 shows me: Category 1.1 Clicking on Category 2 shows me: Category 2.1 etc.

In your case, there are only main categories, i.e. Nature and Landscape. I don't know why this doesn't work for you.

As previously noted, you don't need to do anything with: Parent Category as you don't have any subcategories.

My ideas are out at the moment

Sorry, but you are wrong. I have hundreds of subcategories on my PG. But thank you anyway.
Anybody from Phoca programmers could help, please?

So far we have spoken of 2 categories: Nature and Landscape. I've only seen these.
Now you are writing "you have hundreds of subcategories"

Didn't want to comment further; but due to the fact that according to the last post there are many categories, another note:

Check, try (may be useful) the following:
Options:
Categories View:
Display subcategories: Yes or No.
Empty Categories: No.
Category View:
Display Categories in Category View: Yes.

Passed this thread on to Jan.

Thank you. Yes, I am aware of the options you stated, thank you. But I do not want to display all of them on one page, therefore I am using categories and subcategories.
So at the moment there are 2 issues:
1. Background image in different menus
2. Displaying different categories in different menus.

Hi,

1. Phoca Gallery has no option to somehow influence the background image of menu link. This is customized solution based on the Joomla system (somehow identifiying menu link and somehow chang change the background image e.g. with help of CSS). Unfortunately I didn't make any such customization for Joomla and its menu links so hard to give any clue advice here :-( (maybe joomla.org forum is good to place to discuss the menu link vs background image vs template feature  )

2. Generally, in Joomla, it is recommeded to use only one menu link and the best practice is to use the top menu link (mostly means a categories view), see: https://www.phoca.cz/blog/1230-how-to-c ... -in-joomla

Filter Parent Category ID - in which menu link type do you use this parameter? This is mostly used in categories view, because in category view, there you can specify the category.

I am testing in on my test server (with both menu types) and it works OK for me. I have created tree: nature - landscape - egypt and if I set the ID of landscape in categories view or category view, I can only see the egypt category.

Try to check again the ID, try to see other parameters, if the displaying is not somehow influenced by other parameters?

Hello,
Thank you for the answer. Here is mine: :-)
Ad. 1. Actually both my programmer and Gantry peoplr asked me to contact the Phoca for this problem, as there is nothing "custom" on my site, except one small css stating on which menu to use which background image. Everything else is Phoca - template, Gallery. And even Gantry, as your template can only be installed with Gantry. So I had no choice. The joomla itself is the 3,migrated to 4. Before the migration there was no Phoca installed and actually it was a simple one page site, with nothing but some short text on it and not a SINGLE third party component. So when you write to contact the programmers, you can easily imagine my reaction. :-)
Ad. 2. I am using menu items as well. And Phoca List of Categories. When I type any ID in the Filter Parent Category ID, all categories are gone. The only "solution" is to mark the Show subcategories Phoca option, but then I get ALL subcategories of a category displayed, not level 1 subcategories, as desired. Again - it is a very straightforward joomla installation with only Phoca and Gantry components - both required by you (sorry). ;-)

Maybe this will help: my php is 8.1.
I copied the phocagallery and phocagallery_categories mysql tables from joomla 3, as it is stated here they are the same structure and you do not upgrade them.
