loop creating thumbails - can't stop

What kind of lock do you mean?

Usually:

Phoca Gallery tries to create thumbnails if there are images which does not have thumbnails yet
When the thumbnails creating is stopped in Options, the script to create thumbnails is just disabled.

To prevent from making a lot of thumbnails at once, there is parameter Pagination Thumbnails Generation. When enabled, only images listed on the sites are transformed to thumbnails - e.g. only 20 images as usually pagination includes 20 images.

did you set: Backend --> Components --> Phoca Gallery --> Control Panel --> Options --> Thumbnails --> Thumbnail Generation Settings --> Pagination Thumbnail Generation=Yes

Yes, I tried to change all the thumbnail settings. I deleted all photos via ftp and program. I also uninstalled and installed the component again but it continues in the same way as soon as I enter the images menu.
Despite the problem the thumbnails were created correctly.
For the first 2 days the program did not cause any problems.

I'm having this same problem, being stuck in a loop which is impossible to stop. Visiting the configuration page from a different browser tab, I set Pagination Thumbnail Generation to “Yes” and Enable Thumbnails Generation to “No”. Returning to the images area still brings up the Thumbnail Generating page. I tried restarting the browser, even using a different browser. It is stuck on a single image. I even tried renaming the image via FTP, and disabling the GD and imagick PHP extensions, hoping to cause an error but that didn't work. Clicking the "Stop thumbnail generation" link doesn't work. It just takes you to the generation page again.
I'm on PHP 8.3. Phoca Gallery version 5.0.3

Hi, the redirection process is only active in one view of Phoca Gallery - in images view, you can disable the redirection in Phoca Gallery Options (this is a Joomla view).

Try to disable generation in Phoca Gallery Options, then try to remove this image, then when you go to image list, you should see list of added images (not all will have thumbnails). Then try to enable the regeneration again and try to go to image list again.
