All pictures lost

Hello,

I helped to make a joomla site and added a phocca gallery. Everything worked out great. Now, year later I got a phonecall, that somehow all pictures are gone.
They explained, what they did. But it is very hard for me to understand. They wanted to clear one gategory from pictures. Selected all the pictures from that category and deleted all. They said, there were more pictures on their selection, than there should have been(seemed so afterwards). Deleted them all.
Now, all the pictures from the site is not showing. Showing only emty boxis for every image there should be. In administration area, there are lots of pictures in different categories, but all are grey and showing only text "enlarge image". Click on it and it just starts to think and doesn't do anything.

What happened? What did they do, that phocca gallery allowed them to delete all pictures? Can they save this situation or have to put all pictures up again? There are lots of pictures.

I think the thumbnails are deleted, not the original images, because Phoca Gallery is not able to delete origignal images. so you only need to create the thumbnails once more.
Go to backend --> Components --> Phoca Gallery --> Control Panel --> Options --> Main --> Thumbnail Generation Settings --> Pagination Thumbnail Generation=Yes
Clean Thumbnails=No
Enable Thumbnails Generation=Yes
Save & Close
Now go to: backend --> Components --> Phoca Gallery --> Control Panel --> Images
and create the thumbnails page by page once more.
